No major surprises surfaced so far among those filing for state and federal offices at the state Capitol. Filing continues at a snail's pace today. Eight candidates filed in two hours since the second day of filing period began at 8 a.m. The filing period ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Your thoughts!
Thank you Rhode family for working so hard for children with autism. Even though "Nick's Law" didn't make it this time I'm hopeful for the future if we can get people in office who truly represent the needs of their constiuents. Helping children with autism is certainly a more important issue than a lot of the other things that have been discussed here.

I think all you need to know about Sally Kern is that she is from Texas. That's enough for me. I'll be voting for Oklahomans, not some odd transplant who seems to be more concerned with demagoguery than real issues that really impact families.
In regards to the Republican "agenda". I think it's more than a bit ironic that this latest batch seem to be most irresponsible we've had since..well.. that last batch of Democrats. Proving that the only way to get responsible government is to keep voting new folks in.

To DC: As a conservative and parent of an autistic child as well as a typical child, I do not feel 'threatened' by homosexuals, however bad manners is something else all together. You could have made your point without your crude remarks about conservatives. I have individuals I consider friends who are homosexuals and I have friends who are not. It is the parent's responsibility to discuss this topic at the right time and age with their children. It is not the school's responsibility, just as it is not the school's job to educate my son on sex. Whether you are gay, black, white, yellow, or autistic if you can do the job you are hired to do, then you should be hired. The Republican House needs a real shake up. The only Republican House members that are decent and work FOR the people and not special interests are Representatives Dank, Cox, Joyner and Scott Martin. These four Republican Representative should be voted back into office. The Dems should be voted back into office to regain the majority in the House. The slimy manner in which 98% of the House Republicans wasted taxpayer's money and just passing legislation for special interests was nothing less than deplorable. After meeting and/or watching some of these people at the Capitol (not the four mentioned above or the Dems), it made you want to go home and take a bath.... Robyne Rohde

Thanks Randy. I'm sure many attorneys would love to see a legal document mandating that your father employee nine black workers, no fewer no less. Still, it doesn't address Helen's problem.

rufus my dad had a lumbermill in guthrie. naacp walked in and told him he must have 9 "black" employees. he had 24 "blacks" working for him so he fired 15 of them. its is painfully obvious that the vocal minority like yourself...helen...charles have never owed or managed a business in any capacity. if you cant handle business politics is perfect for you. and whats up rrufus, you finally get out of spencer? to many pregnate unwed teens over there? maybe if you used your time helping them instead of posting your dribble here, you may feel better about your pathetic life.
Randy, Moore - Jun 3, 2008 at 9:09 pm
I'm confused by Helen's assumption that homosexuals are pressing for preferential treatment. If she would like to provide an example of any hiring entity that has been forced to hire a homosexual over an equally qualified heterosexual, I would be interested.
Rufus, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 8:46 pm
In all my 67 years I have never supported a Democrat, but I will definitely support Randy Terill's opponent.
Thomas, Eufaula - Jun 3, 2008 at 7:05 pm
I agree Robyne. I worry less about my daughter at school because we do communicate, however, healthcare is at best absent in this state. We need some real change from Top to Bottom!
K, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 5:31 pm
As a card carrying conservative Republican, Sally Kerns opinion on homosexuality as a threat to our children is something I take pause and think about as a parent and believe parents should step up to the plate and take responsibility in teaching their children what to do in situations that may arise regarding this topic. However Representive Kerns cares nothing about the discrimination of healthcare benefits for the 1000's of children with autism in our state. So as far as I'm concerned, if she truly cared about the children, she would be consistent and would have supported Nick's Law. She should be voted out for the hypocrisy of her actions. And the Democratic opponent to Cargill, Dianne Hunter of Edmond should be voted into office. Cargill has proven to be at the very least unethical, although, I doubt he will seek office again. The Republican House leadership in our last legislative session was disgraceful at best. I'm voting all Republicans out of office that I can at the local and state level, including Fallen. What has she done for me lately? NOTHING! We have contacted her office many times for a statement on insurance coverage for autistic children in our state and received no response. She doesn't deserve to be voted back into office.
Robyne, Edmond - Jun 3, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Sounds a little like Affirmative Action to me.
K, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 5:28 pm
I'm all for equal treatment, just not "preferential" treatment. Why should someone be forced to hire you over someone else because of your sexual orientation. It shouldn't enter into it. That is what the radical agenda is trying to accomplish.
HELEN, NOBLE - Jun 3, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Helen, if homosexuals received "equal" treatment there would not be a problem.
G, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 4:06 pm
I generally do not comment on these because I do not think it's polite to pick on retards...errr..I mean conservatives. But here goes: I would never vote for or respect anyone who claims to love God, but she clearly hates his creations. I would never vote for or respect anyone who uses the Bible as a shield for her bigotry. What are you so scared of? It's not contageous. Really, I promise....it's not. Ask a doctor, or better yet, anyone with an education. I swear, even right wingers who went to school seem uneducated. Knowledge is power my friends.
dd, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 4:01 pm
I agree, but why do we even need to pay them any mind at all? I don't buy into teh whole sexual agenda thing. Show me what they have done here in Oklahoma. Can they marry? NO, One woman One man...passed. Do they get preferential treatment at work? Can't say myself...I don't know any. I would much rather have prayer in schools then worry about what John and Joe or Suzi and Sara are doing at their private homes. As I said, noone has approached my child and told her it was cool to be queer. She is in high school...I think it would have happened by now...
K, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 3:59 pm
I am so sick of all of this "politically correct" crap that is forced on us. We let 5-10% of the population try to shove all of this garbage down our throats. Then how dare someone like Sally come along who has some common sense, speak up for all of us who are tired of the homosexual agenda. If you want to live that lifestyle, keep your sexual orientation at home and quit asking the rest of us to approve of it. Why should your sexual orientation give you preference in getting a job & anything else you want??? You should be treated equally with everyone else but not "better". The next thing you know, we will have to give child molesters and those who like their dog "too much" preferential treatment. This just world just gets sicker and sicker!
HELEN, NOBLE - Jun 3, 2008 at 3:45 pm
So parents be damned don't teach your kids right from wrong. We have Sally!!
K, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 3:43 pm
The same out of state homosexual activists that are backing pro-homosexual canidates are the ones that funded those same politicians that are making those insane Mass. decisions. Coming soon to Oklahoma (or trying to) Sally was 100% correct to take them on and is admired by many for standing up to the homosexual activists onslaught of a smear campaign.
Rufus, spencer - Jun 3, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Rufus - Mass is not Oklahoma. Sally has nothing to do with keeping them out! Besides, ultimately it is teh parents that should do the teaching. I would hope that you have a good enough relationship with your kids that if they are approached, they have the commonsense to say "No thanks, I have my folks to talk to." Or something like that. Just because some people get pregnant in highschool doesn't mean that there is a conspiriacy (sp) to get all girls pregnant. Same with homos
K, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Quite a distortion of Terril's record there Randy. None of which is true. Keep lieing, people are more aware to the liberal distortions after the Clinton years. We just don't buy your bull anymore.
Rufus, spencer - Jun 3, 2008 at 3:09 pm
the majoity of people in norman/moore cant stand terrill. he wins because his preacher buddy's tell the old people at church they are going to hell if they dont vote for terrill. plus, why does terrill spend 200000 dollars to get a job thet pays 65000. and why can he threaten a representative on the capitol steps and not go to jail? terrill is the way he is because scott case beat him daily in the alva public school system. he loses support amongst his base every day. terrill cheats the system, just like he always has. so far in four years he has removed a 5th grade christmas tree from the capitol, passed a hate bill, and caused national embarrassment. voters in his district need to wake up and realize that they deserve better than small town, small mind, small ambition mentality. his district is ready to move forward, but terrill has wasted half his time as represenative. anybody could do better than terrill. a matter of fact replace all of them. we the people do not get fair representation from any of them. on the other hand there will always be the vocal minority like rufus, and charles that keep the corruption alive.
Randy, Moore - Jun 3, 2008 at 3:06 pm
More agenda journalism. I guess there's no dem incumbents that have filers against them eh? Is it to much to ask for the UnOklahoman to report news instead of trying to shape it?
J.T.(I), Norman - Jun 3, 2008 at 2:30 pm
How is it that Randy Terrill took 5 years to graduate from OU Law School (in 2004, admitted in 1999), which caps enrollment at 4 years? How was he admitted to the Order of the Coif, when nobody recalls his participation in those events? Something fishy is going on there.
Robespierre, Montreal, QC - Jun 3, 2008 at 2:25 pm
In Provincetown, Mass., the school board has voted to begin teaching preschoolers about homosexual lifestyles and to back hiring preferences for "sexual minorities." Susan Fleming, superintendent of Provincetown schools, said "The whole question is making gays and lesbians, whether through visuals or examples or acknowledging different family structures, ... visible." ..............Thank Ms. Kern for being vigilant to the Oklahoma children.
Rufus, spencer - Jun 3, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Cherylyn, how do you serve ALL constituents when they fall on opposite sides of an issue? Same with Terrill.
John, Ada - Jun 3, 2008 at 2:06 pm
My daughter attends PCHS and she says no one has EVER approached her about homosexuality, etc.
K, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 1:07 pm
I live in Warr Acres. I will vote for Marlett. Kern maybe morally right but you are supposed to serve ALL your constituents, not just the straight!
K, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Kern was thinking she didn't want a bunch of wealthy out of state gay activists shoving pro-homosexual propaganda at our kids in school or speaking one's mind a hate crime.
Rufus, spencer - Jun 3, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Our district doesn't need a hothead like Sally Kern. I will be glad to see her voted out of office. There are alot of people I am afraid of and gays are not in that catagory. What was she thinking!??
Janet, Oklahoma City - Jun 3, 2008 at 1:04 pm
I am sorry that I don't live in Sally Kern's district. I would vote for her. It takes a lot of guts for a politician to stand up for what is morally right. I admire her for it.
HELEN, NOBLE - Jun 3, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Kern, Terrill will both win easily.
Rufus, spencer - Jun 3, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Randy Terrill for governor.Oklahomans love 1804 and we will get official English when the GOP takes control of the senate. Both were sponsored by Randy.
