Kevin Durant (shoulder) game-time decision against Boston; Who would start in his place?

by Anthony Slater Published: January 24, 2014

Kevin Durant suffered a minor right shoulder injury in San Antonio on Wednesday. And because of it, he missed shootaround Friday morning and is a game-time decision in Boston tonight.

“Get some treatment and see how I feel,” Durant said.

Odds are he gives it a go. Despite missing shootaround, Durant didn’t seem too bothered by the shoulder, even firing up a 3-point shot as he walked away from the media.

But if the Thunder decides to hold him, it would provide an interesting case-study into a franchise that has had either Durant or fellow All-star Russell Westbrook start in every one of the team’s games since moving to Oklahoma City.

In place of Durant in the starting lineup, I’d guess that Scott Brooks would go with Perry Jones. Brooks started Jones earlier this month when Serge Ibaka missed a game with the flu and, as shown in December when Brooks started Andre Roberson for three games in place of an injured Thabo Sefolosha, he likes keeping the bench rotation intact whenever possible.

So it would likely mean extra minutes for Jones. And it would definitely mean extra shots and opportunity for Reggie Jackson, Jeremy Lamb, Serge Ibaka and a couple others.

Clearly, OKC is a far worse team without its two all-world talents. But for one night, it might be interesting to watch the fringe guys get a feature opportunity to duke it out with the 15-29 Boston Celtics.
