'King Lear' opens Thursday

Shakespeare in the Park will present “King Lear” through Sept. 28

Shakespeare in the Park will present “King Lear” Thursday through Sept. 28. The play stars Hal Kohlman as King Lear, Erin Hicks-Cheek as Regan, Julie Devine as Cordelia and Mandee Chapman-Roach as Goneril.

The production is directed by Kathryn McGill. describes “King Lear” as Shakespeare at his most profound, an ancient tale of a king and his three daughters. Both an intimate family drama and explosive political commentary, “Lear” explores the most basic questions of human existence: love and duty; friendship and betrayal; leadership and loyalty; destiny and the overwhelming inevitability of a life nearing its end.

“King Lear” will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays through Sept. 28 at Myriad Gardens Water Stage.

“A Day with Shakespeare” is a student matinee with workshops. Tickets are $6 and the events are 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Sept. 18, 24 and 25.

Tickets prices are $15 for general admission.

Discount tickets are available for $10 for students, seniors, members of the military and groups of 10 or more.
