Kingfisher (11-2) vs. Millwood (12-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
Where: Yukon HS

The record says Kingfisher is 11-2, but the Yellowjackets don’t feel that way. To be honest, coach Jeff Myers and his boys have a hard time accepting the two losses.

You see both of the defeats happened with quarterback Derek Patterson out with a shoulder injury. Also, defensive stud and wide receiver Jordan Woods was banged up.

Myers wouldn’t go as far to say the 28-7 loss to Tuttle and the 17-0 defeat to Heritage Hall wouldn’t have happened anyway, but he knows his team would have made a better showing.

I don’t feel we’ve lost at full strength yet. We have a lot of confidence and there is a lot of tradition that these kids respect and want to become a part of.” – Myers

Obviously, when you think of Kingfisher, you think of defense. Names like Curtis Lofton and Jakob Gaither (among countless others) stick out. This year is no different with senior Rhett Blundell.

The bigger the game, the more Blundell steps up. He had 180 tackles last year, and he’s on his way to breaking the 200-tackle mark this season.

With the bevy of talented skill players Millwood possesses, the Yellowjacket defense is going to have to play its best game of the season. And Myers knows it.

This is a team that beat both of the 4A finalists (Star Spencer and Douglass). We’re going to need some breaks, but we’ve put ourselves in a good position.” – Myers

Take out the 33-32 win at Bridge Creek against one of the best offenses around, and the Yellowjackets haven’t given up more than 17 points since Week 3.
