As a senior, Gatlin Squires will be one of the veteran leaders on both the offensive and defensive lines for Kingfisher. His role at right tackle on an offensive line that must replace two starters will be vital in the run game led by returning 2,000-yard rusher Landon Nault.
Q: How much does last year's loss to Blanchard in the Class 3A title game still stick with you?
A: Not a day goes by that we don't think about it. I'm sure we all think about what we could've done differently. Personally, I had a knee injury right before that, so I didn't get to play as many minutes on defense as I'd like.
How do you feel about the offensive line, with guys like yourself and third-year starter Kaden Jackson returning?
I feel comfortable with what we've got with the three starters we have returning, and we have a move-in who will help us there. I think we'll put together a solid line and help give Landon as much room as we can.
Do you feel a similar level of experience coming back on defense?
Yes, we do. Our defensive line is stacked. We might not be as deep in certain areas, but we're returning guys who played a lot of minutes last year. Our secondary looks like it can be really good. It looks like we have more athletes, more skill position players coming out this year, and a couple new move-ins who are looking like they can be a good addition to the team.
