Knicks' Smith fined $50K for untying opponents' shoelaces Published: January 8, 2014

NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA gave J.R. Smith a warning — and then a $50,000 fine when he ignored it.

To think a shoelace could cost so much.

The New York Knicks guard was docked $50K for "recurring instances of unsportsmanlike conduct" on Wednesday after he tried to untie an opponent's sneaker for a second time in two games.

Smith was caught in the act on two separate occasions this week at the free throw line in games against Dallas and Detroit.
