The blessing was held Feb. 24 at the council's hall, 8805 NE 10.

The machine was purchased as the result of a nearly four-month-long fundraising effort by the Knights council 4026. The funds, collected from members, were combined with matching funds from the nationwide Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Ultrasound Initiative. The initiative began in early 2009 as an effort to give women considering abortion a new way of viewing the life growing inside of them.

Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, head of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, blessed the machine and dedicated it to a goal of helping defend the unborn when women turn to The Eden Clinic for pregnancy consultation.

“This is what we, as Knights, are supposed to do,” John McCarthy, Council 4026 grand knight, said. “We are here to better our community through initiatives like this, initiatives that help our community and the people that live in it.”

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization dedicated to community service. Members of Council 4026 include parishioners from St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Midwest City.
