KOCO-5 has promoted weekend sports anchor Bryan Keating to sports director as the replacement for Bob Irzyk, the station announced Tuesday.
Keating, a 1997 Edmond Santa Fe High School graduate, received a degree in political science from Oklahoma State University in 2002 and a degree in broadcast news from the University of Colorado in 2004.
Before joining KOCO in February 2012, Keating, 34, spent five years as sports director at Abilene, Texas, station KTXS. He also was weekend sports anchor at KAVU, in Victoria, Texas, for two years.
“He's a local product,” said Brent Hensley, KOCO president and general manager. “I'm just thrilled to death to have Bryan leading our sports team. He's a great young sportscaster and loves Oklahoma sports.”
Keating will co-host the station's college football pregame and postgame shows, a role he handled last season with Irzyk. The first show this season will be from the OSU-Mississippi State game Aug. 31 at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
Hensley said the station is looking to hire a weekend sports anchor.
