MIDWEST CITY -- Children can exchange their Halloween candy for toys and provide treats for our troops at the same time though the Kool Smiles "Operation Gratitude."

When the children bring the candy to the local Kool Smiles office, they get their prize and the candy is packaged to be sent to U.S. troops serving overseas via Operation Gratitude.

A child will receive one toy for every 25 pieces of unopened candy in its original intended packaging – toys will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. The program is open to everyone and there is a limit of three toys per child.

In addition to the exchange program, Kool Smiles is donating tooth brushes, toothpaste, and funds to cover shipping costs to Operation Gratitude.

The office, at Decker Center, 1200 S Air Depot, is participating from Thursday, Nov. 1, to Saturday, Nov. 3, during open office hours.

While brushing twice daily and getting regular dental checkups is important for people of all ages, Halloween is a good time for parents to pay close attention to their children’s dental health.

Good oral care can greatly contribute to a person´s overall well-being, and as children grow older, poor oral health is linked with significant health issues such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
