BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise State University President Bob Kustra is giving early praise to a new college football playoff system for crowning a national champion.
This week, a committee of college presidents voted to scrap the Bowl Championship Series and replace it with a four-team playoff. The new system will start in 2014.
Kustra has long been a critic of the BCS, saying it favors teams from bigger conferences at the expense of smaller, upstart teams like Boise State.
Kustra says the playoff is a positive step for college football and opens the door for a new method of determining a national champ. Kustra says he is eager to learn more as details emerge on revenue and access, but believes the college football world is now headed in the right direction.
