Lack of oversight in assistance programs

Published: August 6, 2012

Welfare isn't often discussed by politicians because it's not politically correct to “pick on the poor.” However, as a taxpayer I'm concerned about where my tax dollars are going. Under the Obama administration, 47 million people now get food stamps. Our tax dollars pay for education, housing, food, medical care, insurance, etc. Are there those who truly should be helped? Absolutely. Are there those who apply for and receive disability checks who could work if they weren't so lazy? Absolutely. Those who know and play the system are getting way more than they're due.

I don't necessarily blame the recipients; I blame the lack of oversight in local, state and national governments that allows things to go on that have a negative financial impact on this country. It needs to stop.
