The graduation ceremony at Oklahoma State University on Saturday May 4 was marred by a lack of respect that's prevalent at such occasions. Screaming, whistling and air horns belong at sporting events, not at graduation ceremonies. When many of the graduates' names were called, you couldn't hear the speaker due to the crowd noise. The last four high school graduations I attended had the same kind of noise, and I'm assuming when my other granddaughter graduates from high school in a few weeks the situation will be the same.
Part of the problem may be the venue where the ceremony is held, as people are accustomed to attending sporting events and concerts in these buildings. But for the most part it's simply disrespectful to graduates, their parents and grandparents.
