STILLWATER — Langston University officials announced the firing of one administrator and sought approval for the hiring of her replacement at a meeting Friday.
At a meeting of the Board of Regents for Oklahoma State University and the A&M Colleges, Langston officials announced the firing of Angelia Jones, former vice president for student affairs.
Langston President Kent Smith wouldn't give the reason for Jones' dismissal, saying the university doesn't comment on personnel matters.
During the same meeting, the board approved a contract for Raphael Moffett, the university's new vice president for student affairs.
Moffett's contract carries an annual salary of $100,000.
University officials announced last month they had selected Moffett for the post. Moffett began work in late August.
Moffett comes to Langston from Trinity University, in San Antonio, where he has served for the past three years as director of campus and community involvement.
Before his time at Trinity, Moffett worked in residential life at Clark Atlanta University, in Atlanta.
He also served as adviser of African-American Student Affairs at Georgia State University, in Atlanta, and as director of student life at Morehouse College, also in Atlanta.
Originally from Lacey, Wash., Moffett holds a bachelor's degree in English from Washington State University and master's and doctorate's degrees in educational leadership from Clark Atlanta University.
