Langston University student Erik Reed in C-Span TV session

BY PENNY SOLDAN | Published: January 27, 2009

Erik Reed, a Langston University senior, was among 675 students from 47 states to attend the Presidential Inauguration Seminar held Jan. 10-20 in Washington D.C.

On Day 3 of the seminar, Reed was among 23 students in a question-and-answer session with C-Span President Brian Lamb that aired live on C-Span.

Reed, Langston’s Student Government Association vice president and son of Tina Reed and Ocie Reed, both of Oklahoma City, was asked three questions by Lamb: did he think American politics was a joke (Reed said no), whether he would attend the inauguration (yes), and what he thought about Barack Obama being the next president. In his final answer, Reed said, "Dr. Martin Luther King once said that an individual has not lived until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns, unto the broader concerns of all humanity. I believe that this is history, and that Barack Obama exemplifies that. He believes in us all.”
