U.S. Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, will be honored as the 2013 Salt & Light Award winner in October.
Lankford will be presented the award at the annual Salt & Light Award Dinner set for Oct. 17 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
The award is given annually by the Christian Business Men's Connection of Oklahoma City, a faith-based group known as the CBMC, to honor a man whose life is the personification of the “salt and light” that Christ asked believers to be in Matthew 5:13-16.
“Each year, CBMC strives to not only select a man who puts God before himself, but who the community holds in high esteem,” the organization's leaders said in a news release.
“CBMC looks for a man who is known as honest, as well as hardworking, and who is a shining light in all that he does. The recipient of this award must be active in living and sharing his faith both in the local church and the marketplace. His desire should be to fulfill the Great Commission and be both faithful and obedient to Jesus Christ.”
