— City council members have moved their last meeting of the year to Thursday because of the Christmas holiday. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at 20 S Littler Ave.

City offices will be closed Monday and Christmas Day. Trash collection will be held as scheduled Monday but there will be no trash collection Tuesday. Trash collection will be delayed one day for the rest of the week.

At the meeting, council members will consider a resolution to participate in a surface transportation project for bicycle signage. The project will install “share the road” signs and pavement markings on Boulevard from Clegern to the south city limits and on the Interstate 35 frontage roads from Second Street to the south city limits as part of the Edmond Bicycle Plan.

City leaders will seek 100 percent federal funding for the $85,000 project in 2014.

Council members approved a bicycle master plan that would provide dozens of miles of bicycle routes. Consultants charged $146,000 to write the plan, which included input from local residents and bicycle enthusiasts.

City officials also are moving forward on a recommended pilot program that would create bicycle lanes on University Boulevard along the west side of the University of Central Oklahoma.

Plans are to reconfigure the four-lane street to include two lanes for traffic, a turn lane and two bicycle lanes.

City officials plan to include the bicycle lanes with another project at University and Ayers where the area will be upgraded to meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, such as ramps, signage and audible signals.

Plans are to start the $370,000 project in June after UCO breaks for the summer. has disabled the comments for this article.
