The latest offering from Mustang Brewing Co.’s Saddlebag Series is on liquor store shelves now:
That’s Dragon’s Breath IPA. Mustang brewmaster Gary Shellman describes the beer like this:
“Interesting combination of pine, grapefruit, and citrus with some distinct Belgian candy sugar character to balance the Chinook, Centennial, and Cascade hops, and then the peppers provide a bit of heat that lingers at the back of the throat, waiting for the next sip to maintain the mild burn. Very complex and very enjoyable. Everything in balance.”
I’ve tried several pepper beers, and it’s become one of my favorite styles. All you homebrewers taking part in the Roughtail Wort Transformation event will get a chance to try my latest attempt at the style — what I’m calling a Jalapeno Business Pale Ale, after Mrs. Beagle suggested the name. Smart girl, that Mrs. Beagle.
I aged the beer on a boat-load of home-grown jalapenos and a combination of other peppers I grew in my salsa garden last summer. It’s no Ghost Face Killa, but early reviews have been positive.
Anyway, for everyone else, give this new Mustang brew a try if you’re interested in how hot peppers can be incorporated in beer.
