LaunchOklahoma names winners
The LaunchOklahoma venture accelerator program has chosen four startup companies from Oklahoma City and Tulsa to participate in its 2014 program after a competitive application process.
“This year’s teams were chosen because of the disruptive nature of the businesses and technologies they are building and the potential to have national impact,” said Kraettli L. Epperson, executive director of LaunchOklahoma. “Our goal is to give Oklahoma start-ups some of the same outlook and advantages enjoyed by their coastal peers, especially with regard to fundraising.”
This year’s participants include newAnthropy, a fundraising start-up that allows users to start or join “giving circles” and crowdfunding campaigns that turn charitable giving into a social, collaborative activity.
Another participant, Wintkts, provides event promoters with online tools and a network to offer their fans opportunities to win tickets to popular events by sharing information about the event via social media.
The startup Who’s On My Wifi offers individuals and businesses tools to detect and track who accesses their wireless Internet network. The startup’s product also offers features like text message alerts and point-in-time reporting.
The company Vakargo provides a a marketplace for individuals to make money on their unused luggage space. Inspired by the Airbnb model, Vakargo provides shippers with cheaper prices, as well as detailed tracking data and faster shipping.
The selected companies will participate in the program over 12 weeks, culminating with a LaunchOklahoma’s Pitch Day in October.
