Oklahoma lawmaker says threats prompted gun carrying
Ex-trooper allowed to have weapon

Signs at the state Capitol entrances say that guns are prohibited, but a retired trooper who now serves in the House has legally carried a weapon into the building.

Rep. Mike Christian has permission to carry a weapon into the building, said Capt. Pete Norwood, commander of Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop R, which provides security at the Capitol. State law does not ban it, Norwood said.

Christian, R-Oklahoma City, retired from the highway patrol after serving 10 years. Christian said he retired after he was injured on the job while working an accident.
