JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska Legislature is looking at hiring an additional consultant as it prepares to dig into the issue of oil taxes.

The legislature has on contract for up $1.65 million PFC Energy, which assisted lawmakers last year as the Senate tried to craft an oil tax overhaul.

During a Legislative Budget and Audit meeting Friday, Sen. Kevin Meyer said it would be good for legislators to have more than one contractor to assist them as they work on the issue. He said he likes Roger Marks, who has a contract. But the committee members agreed they wanted to see the parameters surrounding his contract to see if they would extend it or go out for bids for a new contract.

The committee planned another meeting to discuss the issue further.
