About 70 law officers raided the complex this morning, looking for gang activity, drugs and other criminal activity.

The raid was at Rolling Green Apartments, 400 E Danforth Road, Edmond police spokeswoman Glynda Chu said.

Seven people were arrested on drug warrants obtained by Edmond police. Another woman was arrested on a drug complaint; officers said she had marijuana in her possession.

Four people were arrested on Oklahoma County felony warrants and there was another arrest on a warrant. The names and charges were not available this morning.

The raid was the culmination of several months of investigation into complaints of drugs and gangs at the complex, Chu said.

“It is nothing new that this is a problem area,” Chu said. “We get a number of calls from there. The residents are concerned about the open drug deals and gangs starting to move in there.”

Shirley McGill, manager of Rolling Green Apartments, said she welcomed the raid.

“We have been working with Edmond Police Department,” McGill said. “This is a good thing for the community. It will make things better.”

McGill, who said she has only been at the apartment complex four months, said she follows policy when accepting applications for apartments and they do not accept felons.

The raid started at 6:30 a.m. and involved officers from Edmond, Warr Acres and Bethany police departments, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s office, the FBI and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Chu said police executed drug activity search warrants, and sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve a number of outstanding felony warrants.

Officers remained on the scene after the arrests were made, going door to door and talking with other residents to make sure they were OK, Chu said.

The more than 200-unit apartment complex is at the corner of Boulevard Avenue and Danforth Road, a few blocks from Edmond North High School and Sequoyah Middle School.

"We had heard that there were some issues going on so we contacted the police,” said Randy Decker, executive director of district personnel for Edmond Schools.

“They said there was no threat whatsoever to our schools so we have no schools on lockdown, but we monitored and made sure everything was safe for our students and we were sure that they were, so right now it's business as usual," Decker said.

“A lot of planning really paid off this week and no one was injured,” Chu said. “You don’t know who has a gun and is ready to use it at 6:30 in the morning.”
