Lawyers say Edmond soldier deserves new trial

First Lt. Michael Behenna was convicted of unpremeditated murder in February, even though a government expert agreed with his testimony about the shooting death of an Iraqi detainee.
A diverse group of Oklahoma attorneys has asked the U.S. Army to grant a new trial for Behenna, an Edmond native serving a 25-year prison sentence. "Giving him a fair trial is the least we could do,” said former U.S. Attorney Robert McCampbell. McCampbell is one of 26 state attorneys who signed the letter sent Tuesday to Secretary of the Army Pete Geren. The list includes University of Oklahoma President David Boren, Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson and three other former U.
