The men's fashion world rarely makes headlines, but recently, a guys' style trend is making a splash — meggings. That's leggings for men.
Rock stars have been squeezing into meggings for decades — David Lee Roth and his electric blue spandex in the '80s, anyone? Prince likely has a wing of his closet devoted to them.
Lenny Kravitz, Russell Brand and Justin Bieber rock the skin tights on a regular basis, but are meggings a trend that's going to catch on in Oklahoma?
Not likely, some locals say.
“We're not supporting meggings in Oklahoma City,” joked Jamicia Wylie, fashion buyer at Gil's Clothing & Denim Bar.
“I think tights for running are different,” Wylie said. “For athletics it's one thing, but I hope we're not going to see a bunch of guys in Oklahoma City running around in tunics and meggings.”
David Downham, a 24-year-old graphic designer at The Oklahoma Publishing Co., said he's more likely to go back to wearing Lee Pipes, those baggy, high-waisted jeans that were popular in the '80s and '90s. He's tall and lanky and prefers the slim-fitting dress pants that are stylish for young professionals right now but said even tight skinny jeans are too much of a fashion risk for him.
