WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Legia Warsaw's place in the Champions League playoff round is at risk from a UEFA probe into a possible ineligible player having been fielded against Celtic on Wednesday.
Legia says in a statement it prepared information on Thursday for a UEFA investigation into defender Bartosz Bereszynski.
UEFA has not officially commented on the case ahead of conducting the playoffs draw on Friday.
If UEFA rules that Bereszynski should not have played in Legia's 2-0 win in Glasgow, Celtic could be awarded a 3-0 win by default. That would send Celtic through on the away goals rule with a 4-4 aggregate score.
Bereszynski appeared as an 86th-minute substitute in the third qualifying round, second-leg match when the aggregate score was already 6-1 to Legia.
