The measure was passed Wednesday by the House and Senate and now goes to Gov. Brad Henry. It was sponsored by Sen. Earl Garrison, D-Muskogee, and Rep. Paul Roan, D-Tishomingo.

The bill allows the Department of Public Safety to acquire, house and train canines to assist in explosives detection, seek out drugs, provide officer protection and track criminal suspects.

Each canine would be kenneled with its full-time trainer-handler, who will serve as the primary caregiver of the animal.

Garrison said any costs associated with acquiring, housing and training the canines will be paid for with asset forfeiture funds.

We can stop frivolous law suits, now we need to stop frivolous bills from being introduced and jamming up the governmental system to where no real actions can be passed to help the state!!
