James Santiago of Albuquerque, New Mexico, writes:

Marilyn: I disagree with your reply about wasting water. (September 20, 2009) Retaining water in the man-made distribution system leaves less water for nature's distribution system. As far as the amount of available water is concerned, nothing is changed by retaining water in any particular place in the man-made system. Retaining the maximum amount of water in the man-made system leave less for those in other locations who must depend on nature's distribution system, which I believe is more in sync with the overall needs of the planet than bureaucrats who are interested only in their own little corner of the world.

Many other planetary processes also depend on Nature's proper water distribution. So let nature do it. Of course, it would be difficult for our civilization to move the location of a city when natural water sources dry up.
