The library system is participating in Free Comic Book Day, a national event to introduce new readers to comics and graphic novels. Pioneer libraries will give a free comic book to every customer who checks out a book from the teen collection area that day.
The comics were donated by local comic book stores: Atomik Pop and Speeding Bullet Comics in Norman; Movies, Music and Heroes in Moore; and Bibliotech Books and Comics in Shawnee. The stores also will give away comics May 3.
The Pioneer Library System introduced its graphic novel collection for teenagers in October 2002 and it continues to expand.
