NORMAN — Libraries in the Pioneer Library System will accept canned food in exchange for a reduction in customers’ library fines starting Monday.

The Food for Fines program will run through Dec. 7. The program allows customers to bring in nonperishable food donations and reduce their fines by $1 for each item. There is a $20 limit.
Food items must have current dates and intact labels and be in good condition. Each community decides which local charity will receive the food donations.
"Of course, we will also be happy to accept donations from people who don’t owe the library any money,” said Anne Masters, Pioneer Library System director. "It all goes to help the community.”
Donations will be accepted inside all nine Pioneer libraries during regular hours.
Card holders can contact the library to see if they have fines or charges. They can also go online at www.justsoyouknow.us and check their accounts.
