CHOCTAW — More than 80 children and adults packed the Choctaw Library on Monday to hear stories about Australia and get a close-up look at a blue-tongued skink.

The Awesome Australia program is one of a series of globally themed programs offered by the Metropolitan Library System this summer, spokeswoman Kim Terry said.

The programs pair with the theme of the national summer reading program: One World, Many Stories.

“One of our goals is to kind of open up people’s eyes to different cultures,” Terry said. “The library’s one of the best places to do that.”

Two more Australia-themed events are planned. Teen Australia Adventure will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Choctaw Library, 2525 Muzzy.
