Event: Symphony Show House Opening Gala “The Trio in the Abbey.”

Where: Gaillardia Country Club Grand Ballroom.

The evening: Guests were invited to take a tour of the Show House homes at The Abbey at Fairview Farms before cocktails, dinner and dancing to the Wise Guys followed, at the gala.

Decor: An elegant black-tie event, the ballroom was decorated in stunning arrangement of jewel-toned floral arrangements, which included several varieties of tropical flowers, and tables and chairs were dressed in formal fabric. Hats off to Tony Foss, who created this stunning ambience.

Chairmen: Anita Ashley was chairman and co-chairman was Barbara Spencer.

Seen: Don and Carol Kaspereit, Peggy and Marvin Lunde, Carole and Dale Bowman, Billy Bowden and Jane Harlow, Sharlene Branham, Bill and Lou Ross, Renate and Chuck Wiggin, Lois and John Salmeron, Grace and Pat Ryan, Cindy Raby, John and Anna McMillin, Kirk and Royce Hammons, Pat and Ray Potts, Lida and Robert Elkins, Peggy and Doug Cummings, LaDonna and Herman Meinders, Jose Freede and Don and Eleanor Whitsett.


Event: Women of the South Third Annual Magnolia Brunch and Fashion Show.

Where: Petroleum Club.

Honored: Lou Kerr, president and chairman of The Kerr Foundation.

The event: The brunch was all about hats and fashions — elaborate hats which many of the women chose to wear in deference to the upcoming Kentucky Derby and fashions from Balliets. Guests who needed a little something extra to add to their wardrobe participated in a silent auction of purses and jewelry. Decorations by Eventures.

Event: Harding Fine Arts Academy Awards Dinner and Presentation.

Where: Civic Center Meinders Hall of Mirrors.

Honored: The John and Joy Reed Belt Award was presented for Leadership in Arts & Education, established to recognize a person or people who have raised visibility for arts education. John Belt's award was presented posthumously by Honorary Chairman Christian Keesse. Joy Reed-Belt's award was presented by John Spinks.
