— With numerous church members living in surrounding areas of Norman and Moore, LifeChurch.tv Moore came into being months before a building was constructed for worship services.

So said the Rev. Michael Metcalf, campus pastor of the new LifeChurch.tv satellite set to open Sunday at 2916 S Telephone Road.

“We rallied together, and our LifeGroup structure was here before the May 20 tornado,” Metcalf said of the church's small groups that meet apart from worship.

“We were already establishing relationships, and that was a way for us to say, ‘This is our city. This is our town.'”

Metcalf, 41, said church leaders can't predict the estimated crowd for Sunday's opening, but they are hopeful the excitement and anticipation expressed by community members is a sign that many individuals and families are planning to attend.

“God always historically shows up much bigger than what we anticipated,” he said.

Meeting a need

LifeChurch.tv broke ground on the new building in February. Metcalf said he and other church ministry leaders began moving in Dec. 2. The new building, visible from Interstate 35, is 47,000 square feet with a sanctuary/auditorium that will seat 1,000, Metcalf said.

Church leaders felt a new satellite campus would be welcomed in the area because of the growth of the LifeChurch.tv South Oklahoma City campus, he said. More than 5,000 people attend that satellite site at 7800 S Walker each week, officials said. It was launched in 2005.

Metcalf said leaders knew that many of the people who attended the south Oklahoma City campus lived in the Moore and Norman areas, so the Moore satellite seemed to be a good idea.
