LifeChurch.tv has bought 20 acres at Broadway Extension south of Britton Road to build another location.
Life Covenant Church Inc., its formal name, paid $1,655,192 for the land, southwest of the intersection with the busy freeway midway between downtown Oklahoma City and Edmond. The seller was TEXOK Properties LP.
“The transaction removes a large Broadway frontage tract of land from the market,” said broker Mark Inman of CB Richard Ellis-Oklahoma, who handled the transaction. “LifeChurch was looking to serve the MidTown/north Oklahoma City population and this location on a freeway allows for easy, quick access to those areas.”
LifeChurch plans to build a location to be open in 2014, said Lori Bailey, director of communications. CBCI Construction will be the general contractor. The building will be designed by LifeChurch.tv Design & Construction. Small Architects of Edmond is the architect of record. Bailey said plans are still being developed and did not have an estimated construction cost.
Why a new location at Britton and Broadway?
“It's humbling to see what God has done at LifeChurch.tv since we held our first service in a small dance studio in 1996. Our locations in the Oklahoma City metro area have been experiencing incredible growth,” Bailey said. “We've been looking at this particular area for some time since many people who attend our other campuses can easily access this new location.”
It's a gritty part of north Oklahoma City, an area of socioeconomic extremes. Neighborhoods have high unemployment, low homeownership, high crime and gang activity among other social ills, as well as TV and radio stations, prominent office buildings and other business development.
“Our various campuses in the metro are located in different types of areas from retail to residential, and we are always eager to make a difference in lives of people that live near each of our locations,” Bailey said. “We understand change happens best within relationships, and the staff at each of our locations, along with the families in our church who already live in the area, are dedicated to loving and serving our community.”
LifeChurch has 16 locations in five states: in Broken Arrow, Edmond, Jenks, Midwest City, three locations in Oklahoma City, Midwest City, Owasso, two locations in Tulsa, Stillwater and Yukon; as well as Albany, N.Y.; Fort Worth, Texas; Hendersonville, Tenn.; and Wellington, Fla. Members also meet globally through its Church Online.
LifeChurch is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church, founded in 1885 in Chicago by Swedish immigrants, now with more than 800 congregations.
The denomination “values the Bible as the Word of God, the gift of God's grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God's love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity,” according to LifeChurch.tv.
