Light damage at Lake Eufaula as storms roll through state

A flash flood watch is in effect in northeastern Oklahoma Sunday following locally heavy showers and thunderstorms that forecasters said will continue across the state for much of the upcoming work week.

The storms have already caused some damage near Lake Eufaula, according to the National Weather Service. About 5:20 p.m., winds in excess of 60 mph overturned camper trailers at the state park in McIntosh County. There were no reports of injuries.

Quarter-sized hail was also reported about five miles north of the city of Eufaula.

Additional damage was reported about 6:20 p.m. near Pharoah in Okfuskee County, according to the weather service. Tree limbs are down and damage to barn rooftops was reported in the area.

The weather service said thunderstorms were expected to develop overnight from northeastern Oklahoma into southwest Kansas. Other storms may develop further west toward northwestern Oklahoma.

Forecasters said the best threat of showers overnight will be across northeastern and northern Oklahoma. Storms are forecast to move southeastward on Sunday and Monday, moving the thunderstorm threat to southern parts of the state.

Chances of precipitation will gradually diminish Tuesday through Thursday as an upper ridge of high pressure begins to build a bit eastward.

Sunday will be partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall is possible. Highs will range from the upper 70s in northeastern Oklahoma to the 80s and 90s elsewhere.

Sunday night will be partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall is possible. Lows will be in the 60s and 70s.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Monday. Skies will be partly cloudy with highs in the 80s and 90s and lows in the 60s and 70s.

Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in southeastern Oklahoma. Highs will be in the 80s and 90s with lows in the 60s and 70s.

Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in far southeastern Oklahoma. highs will be in the 80s and 90s with lows in the lower 60s to mid 70s.

Thursday will be partly cloudy with highs in the 80s and 90s and lows in the lower 60s to mid 70s.
