NEW YORK (AP) — The Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession, and expects to receive a one-year jail sentence.

He previously had pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3 1 / 2 years in prison upon conviction.

Police said a gun was found on his tour bus in Manhattan in 2007.

The rapper, born Dwayne Carter, won last year's best rap solo performance Grammy for "A Milli." His albums include "Tha Carter," "Tha Carter II" and "Tha Carter III."

His trial had been due to start Jan. 20.

I don't know who Little Wayne is, but I can't understand what "attempted gun possession" is or why it is a crime. Can anyone explain this?

It's Obama's fault...

Brock, its completely random. Police, especially at the airports when landing on personal jets, have a tendency to search celebrities who promote the whole drug-sex-alchohol idea of excess. They used to do it rock stars before y'know, rock went clean...

It was racist man, he is only charged cause he is black. If it were a white guy, he would have been released.

Publish this non-news event in Ebony or the Black Gazette. Very few, if any readers (that's the key) of the DOK could give a rat's behind about this no-talent, rap-crapper.

"Possessing" a gun isn't a crime. Except in New York.

Why were the police on his tour bus to begin with? I realize New York is screwed up but is it a policed state, already forgoing an individuals constitutional right?

Will this delay the anticipated release of "Tha Carter IV"? Watch your cornhole, Dwayne.

typical. who cares?!?!?!

Unfortunately, his time in prison will make him even more popular with a significant portion of his fans once he is released. Young people have always valued a rebel who suffers for their "cause".

In Oklahoma, this isn't against the law. It's a right.
