EDMOND - Outdoor charcoal and gas grilling are allowed with limitations under Oklahoma's partial burn ban, Edmond Fire Prevention Chief Tim Wheeler said Friday.

"If you do choose to cook outside, do it over a nonflammable surface of at least 10 feet by 10 feet," he said.

That surface could include a patio or a sidewalk, Wheeler said.

No matter how careful people are, they can be held liable if their actions cause a fire, he said.

"We've seen so many wildfires in the last four month, it's important we do our part in being safe," he said. "We've seen the smallest of sparks causing the largest of wildfires."

Gov. Brad Henry reinstated a limited burn ban for portions of the state Monday. The new ban covers all of the state except southeastern Oklahoma, which received the largest amount of rainfall in recent weeks.
