CHANDLER — The death of a 4-year-old boy in rural Lincoln County is under investigation, Sheriff Charlie Dougherty said Friday.
The body of Troy Damelio was taken Thursday to the state medical examiner's office in Oklahoma City, spokeswoman Amy Elliott said.
The cause and manner of death have not been determined, Elliott said.
Dougherty said the boy's parents called Thursday to report the child died at the family's trailer home at 850661 S State Highway 18. The parents said he had a fever for about a week before he died.
Investigators were told the parents are members of the Church of the Firstborn in the Parkland community. Dougherty said members are known not to seek medical help for illnesses.
A spokesman for the Church of the Firstborn could not be reached for comment Friday, but the church's website discusses the church's beliefs regarding medical treatment. Members are taught to obey the word of God, which requires them “to also obey the laws of our land and our government.”
