Linen fashion show in Oklahoma City will raise funds, spirits for 'Miracle' kids

More than 20 of Oklahoma’s “Miracle” children, along with a host of glamorous models, including Miss Oklahoma 2013 Kelsey Griswold, will come together for an elegant and glitzy fashion show to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant.

Marianne’s Rentals for Special Events is staging the Linen Runway Show from 7 to 10 p.m. April 15 in The Grand Ballroom at Gaillardia Country Club.

You may be surprised at the spectacular gowns in the show, hosted by Miss Oklahoma 1986 Mignon Merchant-Ball. The haute couture-inspired dresses are actually fabrics available at Marianne’s Rentals, intended to be used as special-occasion table linens, decorations and other fabrics for wedding receptions and the like.

For the show, the fabrics will be hand-draped on the models, who include Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson-Faram, by creative designers at Marianne’s, including marketing director Brent Patterson.

“You would never imagine the linens you would rent for special occasions, you could turn into these the amazing runway gowns,” Griswold said. She heard friends who were in last year’s show say they’d love to wear Patterson’s creations in the Miss America Pageant if given the chance.

Griswold and the other models will take their turns on the catwalk, wearing the specially designed gowns. After that, 22 girls from the Children’s Miracle Network will join the models for a final walk on the runway.

When the girl who will walk with Griswold found out who her model partner would be, she nearly “fell on the floor,” Griswold was told.

“To me, she doesn’t know that my reaction is basically the same,” Griswold said. “They’re what inspire me, they’re the reason that (I) keep going every single day.”

What struck Dunham from last year’s event was that there was not a dry eye in the house.

“It was really heart-warming to see even all the daddies that came, just crying because they saw their daughters on stage with the pageant winners, walking down a runway in a fashion show,” she said.

For the Miracle girls, it will be a special memory to treasure, Dunham said.

Making music

On April 2, several of the title holders, including Griswold, and a group of the Miracle kids got special permission to make a music video to the popular song “Gold” by Britt Nicole. The song’s chorus:
