Literati Press will be at The Hub, 7 N Lee, during Premiere at Film Row to celebrate the release of the second issue of Literati Presents.
The collection of short fiction and illustrated stories is published twice a year and invites artists and writers to create a story based around a common theme, with each story limited to no more than eight pages. The theme for the second issue is “Emergency Exit.” Creators will be on hand to sign copies, which will be on sale for $5.
“Literati Presents is the only product we have that we don't sell online,” creative director Charles Martin said in a news release.
“It is an approachable and fun read, and we want to use it as a lure to get people into shops, spending their money locally as well as helping us legitimize our place on store shelves.
“We want owners to know our readers by name, we want our readers eager to ask for our product, and we want the owners and employees just as eager to handsell our titles. In-store events are more than just begging for sales, but building a stronger spirit of community among our readers and our creators.”
Coop Ale Works will provide refreshments, and Blake Fischer will perform an acoustic set, beginning at 7:30 p.m. It will be the first of a monthly musician series at The Hub, celebrated with a T-shirt designed by Okay See Clothing and Community specifically for Fischer.
“Literati Presents” No. 2 features the work of the Gentle Art of Floating's Eric Gorman, Denver-based writer and The New York Times contributor Jonathan Raab, Oklahoma City's Rebecca Rutledge, Austin, Texas-based cartoonist and comedian Jonathan Hubbell, Equinox Comic's Ben Soto, and cover designs by Scott Sackett and Jack Fowler.
Premiere on Film Row is a public block party taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday along Sheridan Avenue between Dewey and Shartel. The event will debut a new indoor urban park at IAO Gallery, 706 W Sheridan, featuring LEGO and sandbox play areas, ceiling kite flying, multimedia green screen, noodle forest, balloon animals and hula hoops.
Sponsored by Fowler Honda, the event is a family- and pet-friendly event on the third Friday of each month featuring film screenings, live music, art exhibitions and gourmet food trucks. Admission is free.
