Local residents organize tornado relief effort

A woman who lost just about everything during the May 3, 1999, tornado is organizing a collection of furniture, clothing and other donations for victims of Mondays tornadoes. She and a friend are coordinating a kick-off collection party Thursday night.

A woman who lost almost everything during the May 3, 1999, tornado that swept through Moore is helping to organize a relief effort for victims of Monday’s tornadoes.

Volunteers and tornado victims are invited to stop by the collection warehouse, 25 NW 9, during the following times:

→Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

→Sunday: Noon to 8 p.m.

→Monday through May 20: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

→May 21-22: Noon to 5 p.m.

Hours are subject to change depending on needs and donations. Tornado victims must bring an insurance claim number to receive donations.

Anyone who would like to help is asked to bring donations of furniture, clothing, personal hygiene products or other items to a warehouse at 25 NW 9.

The collection will kick off tonight with the Oklahoma Donation Tweet-Up. Volunteers can bring donations or help sort donated items from 5 to 8 p.m. Several restaurants will provide free food, and Samuel Gordon Jewelers donated a .34 carat oval diamond worth $1,100 to raffle to raise money for the Red Cross.
