Locals sound off on midweek July 4 ideas

Since July 4 falls in the middle of the week, how will Oklahoma City residents celebrate? We reached out to our readers and here is what they told us:

“Since the Fourth of July is in the middle of the week, a ‘staycation' is a perfect way of getting out of the house without having to travel far. Hanging out in Bricktown you can do a little bit of everything: get a cupcake at Pinkitzel, grab tacos at Fuzzy's and catch a movie at Harkins Theaters. You can cap off the evening with fireworks in Bricktown.” — Kylie Ethridge

“Since it's in the middle of the week and I have to work the next day, I'm planning to go to Lake Hefner in the evening with friends to sail and enjoy the fireworks displays all around the city. I hear that out in the middle you can see fireworks from Edmond to Norman.” — John R. McLaughlin

And among suggestions from Oklahoman staffers:

• Hike the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in southwest Oklahoma and catch a longhorn burger in Meers.

• Host a backyard pool party, or find someone who will.

• Have family fun at home: video, board and card games, followed by a fireworks outing.
