Lon Kruger tidbits: OU's new coach a two-time Big Eight Player of the Year

*Playing honors: Big Eight Player of the Year in 1973 and 1974; third team on all-time Big Eight team (Mr. Hustle); No. 12 jersey was retired at Kansas State; in Kansas State Hall of Fame.


*Coaching honors: One of only three coaches to lead four different schools to NCAA Tournament wins, joining Jim Harrick and Eddie Sutton. One of only six coaches to lead three different schools to Sweet Sixteen, joining John Calipari, Bill Self, Rick Pitino, Tubby Smith and Sutton.

*Non basketball exploits: Kruger was drafted by the Houston Astros (1970) and the St. Louis Cardinals (1974) and was invited to the Dallas Cowboys rookie training camp (1974).

*Kruger the author: In 2008, Kruger wrote the book, "X's and O's of Success, a Playbook for Leaders in Business and Life." The book consists of 40 five-minute lessons conducive to leadership in non-sport settings. All proceeds are donated to the Clark County School, one of several charities Kruger is involved with.
