LONE GROVE — A photo was made available Sunday of Lone Grove tornado victim William Clinton "Bill” Wheat Sr.

He was living in a rural brick home with his son, William Wheat Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Judy. The younger Wheat was critically injured when the tornado wiped their home to the slab, Rhonda Wheat said of her father and brother.

Wheat Sr., 78, retired from the Air Force in 1970 as a master sergeant, with tours in Vietnam, South Korea and Germany. He also worked 22 years for the Uniroyal tire factory in Ardmore.

He loved travel, University of Oklahoma football and hunting, and loved to fish for catfish on Lake Texoma.

To solve the mystery of traveling lightweight debris, the National Weather Service in Tulsa used the same computer model that it uses to track hazardous material releases in the atmosphere.

Experts believe it is possible that the check was at one point 30,000 feet above the ground at the top of the tornado’s rotation before winds blew it in a northeasterly direction.

The computer model showed that if there had been some type of chemical release in Lone Grove just after the storm hit around 7:30 p.m., one of the possible flight paths would have been over the Broken Arrow area.

Sellers said a Broken Arrow resident found the check, which had a Lone Grove address.

If you discover any documents, pictures or other items that seem to originate from the Lone Grove area, call the Lone Grove police at (580) 657-4888.
