Lone survivor in deadly Bartlesville fire describes escape

BARTLESVILLE —- The lone survivor of a fire that claimed five lives in Bartlesville stood outside the charred wreckage Sunday, hugged his father and counted his blessings.

"I'm blessed," Dakota Jackson said. "I'm blessed to be alive."

Jackson said he was the only person inside the residence who made it out alive. He woke up to "smoke and screaming," he said, but was calm enough to stay low, to get oxygen. He finally found a window and punched it out — scars were visible on his knuckles — then ran for help, before passing out in a ditch, he said.
