Longhorns go deep

Longhorns go deep
It's been a tough preseason for wide receivers at Texas.

Senior receiver Billy Pittman sprained his left shoulder late last week and is questionable for the Sept. 1 season opener against Arkansas State. He joins fellow wideouts Limas Sweed (wrist) and Jordan Shipley (hamstring) on the sideline.

The good news: wide receiver is among the Longhorns' deepest positions.

The bad news: they might have to prove it.

Among the injured, none has been ruled out of the opener. But don't expect any to be rushed back, either. Not against Arkansas State.

Expect Horns quarterback Colt McCoy to lean on Quan Cosby, the team's second-leading receiver a year ago, and perennial backup Nate Jones. Texas could turn to three talented freshmen: Malcolm Williams, Brandon Collins and James Kirkendoll.
