The Louisiana SPCA says in a news release that it has sent a team of staffers and volunteers to the emergency boarding facility established in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn by the ASPCA with help from a $500,000 grant from TV personality Rachael Ray.

The Louisiana team is handling duties that include feeding, walking and cleaning of the animals and maintenance of the temporary shelter.

"As an organization, we are dedicated to providing assistance to animals in need during disaster relief," said Ana Zorrilla, CEO of the Louisiana SPCA. "We wanted to reciprocate the generosity of the animal rescuers who helped us after Katrina as well as provide resources for those affected by Hurricane Sandy so they can focus on the recovery process."

The LA SPCA said the emergency boarding facility will be open for 30 days to assist pet owners with temporary housing and care for their animals as they recover from Sandy. Owned animals were transported by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals to the emergency facility from evacuation shelters in the surrounding area.
