WICHITA, Kan. — Blake Bell had plans to visit several of the nation's elite college football programs during the spring of 2009.

One visit to Oklahoma changed that plan.

"It was my first visit," Bell said. "I was setting up my spring tour and I knew I was going to check some places out. Then I went to OU and they were real, they treated me right. The whole coaching staff was awesome. I called the next morning and it was a done deal.

"I had a lot of visits set up but I cancelled them all. There was just no reason for it."

Bell sealed the deal on Wednesday, signing with Oklahoma early in the morning before holding a signing ceremony at Bishop Carroll in the afternoon.

"We knew when we left," Blake's father Mark Bell said of the decision to sign with the Sooners. "We were getting ready to go to a lot of big-time programs, we already had them set up, but we left there and we knew. We cancelled everything, sometimes you just know it. There was no doubt in our mind."

And nothing that happened since Bell's commitment changed his decision. The Sooners' struggles in 2009 and the emergence of Landry Jones at the quarterback position didn't cause Bell to waver.
