A new series of awards will recognize students who envision creative learning environments that can be enacted within their school communities.
Creative Oklahoma, along with Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores, is seeking entries for the 2012 Love's Creative SPARKS! Awards for all Oklahoma students in grades kindergarten through 12, including public, private, charter and homeschooled students. Deadline is Oct. 19.
Creative Oklahoma created these awards in 2010 and then recruited Love's, A+ Schools, OPUBCO and deadCenter Film Festival to help develop them.
Students who apply must complete a written application form and submit a three- to five-minute video based on their idea. Four cash prizes will be awarded — to students in elementary, middle and high school and a grand prize of a one-year tuition waiver awarded a student in 11th or 12th grade.
“Our goal is to support these early creative thinkers and their visions for a more creative learning environment,” said Susan McCalmont, president of Creative Oklahoma, in a news release.
Winners will be recognized at the State of Creativity Forum on Nov. 13 at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City.
Teachers are also asked to participate in the “Use Your Imagination to Create & Innovate” educational program, which features four weekly lessons from Sept. 18 through Oct. 9 in The Oklahoman. This program is complimentary to schools. Teachers can register with Bailey Huntsman at BHuntsman@opubco.com.
