Lower bowl sold out for OSU-Texas

Saturday night's football game between No. 3 Texas and No. 13 Oklahoma State will be first official sellout of the expanded Boone Pickens Stadium seating bowl.

In 2009, OSU has already set the three largest single-game attendance marks in its history. Saturday's game will exceed each of those three contests. The current single-game attendance record at Boone Pickens Stadium is 56,901 against Grambling on Sept. 26.

A crowd of 58,000-plus fans is expected for Saturday night.

The total capacity of the stadium is 60,218, so Saturday's game won't be a complete sellout. There are open suites, which are not available on a single-game basis.

Kickoff between the Cowboys and Longhorns is set for 7 p.m. The game will be televised by ABC (Cox 8).

This game is the biggest game in OSU history, for they have worked to attain this moment. They are fighting for a Big12 title. If OSU wins this game their path is clear to the Big12 title. This game will be remembered as the game that put OSU over the hump, so to speak. They will gain respect nationwide as a big time football program..... From this OU fan, I wish you good luck tonight.....

This is it for Texas! If Texas wins and look good, Alabama and Florida will have to loose... Texas will be right in there for the NC. So go Pokes!

If you can't sell out one of the smaller stadiums in the Big-12 on a regular basis then the
Aggies need to try something different. Sometimes Farmers and Oilmen have differing
oulooks on the same situation.

Oh, yeah...OSU games are for the rich?!
What an idiotic statement.
Holder has done a great job of getting OSU football out of the dark ages. Donations, new stadium and ticket prices that will benefit the OSU program.
And OSU fans are coming in like never before.
Someone has to foot the bill, Ray. Sure, Holder could have made if affordable for low rents like you, but were you there when ticket prices were so much lower?
I doubt it.
And when they were lower, so was the quality of play.
"You get what you pay for.", Ray....and apparently by your tone, you don't get much.
Why..NO. I KNOW WHY...this paper has to throw in "Lower Bowl" in their headline. It's to make sure there's a negative remark. Typical of this ou rag.
Why not, "OSU/Texas is a sell out!" and leave it at that.
Why doesn't the OuKlahoman not qualify a "sell out" at Lloyd Noble? It'll report a "sold out Lloyd Noble" and there's obviously several hundred seats empty. The reason is that this paper pushes ou and attempts to discredit OSU at every opportunity. Just like this headline.
The fact is, OSU is getting more and more people in the seats at BPS and Swooner fans can't stand that OSU is threatening to overtake them in national and state attention.
GO POKES!! BEAT TEXAS!!
Danny, Vail - Oct 31, 2009 at 9:57 am
Travis, a sellout is a sellout and empty seats means it wasn't a sellout. And Unsub, how can you say that OSU should win? Wins over Mizzou and the Aggies doesn't mean much win coupled with a loss to Houston, and at home, too. I hope OSU wins, too, but really have my doubts that they can pull it off. But if they lose, I won't relegate them to the MIAA. Again, Travis, they aren't sold out. As long as they have their stupid ticket policy that totally leaves out the common man, they'll not sell out. Only the rich can attend an OSU game and not everyone has the income of ole whatizname.

I am going to the game. Luckily I already have a ticket, because if I wanted to get one there wouldn't be any available. Because they are sold out. derp derp derp...
Travis, OKC - Oct 30, 2009 at 7:58 pm
clasless Travis needs to go to the game, because it seats 60000 people not 58000!
Jacob in kansas, mynewbff - Oct 30, 2009 at 7:06 pm
No excuses have been made whatsoever. You are the king of hypocrisy. You are also really good at coming up with insults, people always call you a classless loser. So you call people classless and loser. Good ones.
Travis, OKC - Oct 30, 2009 at 5:37 pm
"Why would losing to the #3 team in the country be so bad, especially after losing your 2 best offensive playmakers?"

It is not even Sunday morning yet and Classless Travis is already making excuses. What a d-bag you are Travis. God your a loser.
Jason, Oklahoma City - Oct 30, 2009 at 5:27 pm
As an OU fan I don't really care how many seats are empty at OSU's games. They can't sell out Bedlam at home either, but so what? I heard they only requested 4000 tickets to the Bedlam game this year, and they usually turn back tickets when the game is in Norman. This "problem" (if it is one)stems from the fact that OSU took the unprecedented step of expanding a stadium that they could not fill at a lower capacity. Normally stadium seating is expanded only after a school has had steady sellouts for a long period of time with a long waiting list. I gues they wanted to spend the money they were given even if it made no sense. The only thing that should matter to OU fans about this game is that it would be good if Texas loses no matter how many or how few OSU fans are there to see it.
Steven, Oklahoma City - Oct 30, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Second biggest. Bedlam '84 was bigger. Last game of the year and the winner would be big 8 champs and would go to the Orange Bowl for a possible MNC. This game's winner can still trip up in the remaining games and there is not any title on the line whatsoever, only the lead. No guarantee of a title game appearance. '84 Bedlam, that is the biggest game in OSU history, that I know of.
DARRYL, CONCHO - Oct 30, 2009 at 5:00 pm
"If they don't win, they should never compare themselves to a D1 team again"

Thanks for the support, but I am not so sure about this statement. Why would losing to the #3 team in the country be so bad, especially after losing your 2 best offensive playmakers? I would love a win, but Texas definitely should be favored in this game.
Travis, OKC - Oct 30, 2009 at 4:59 pm
I am not going to use my parent tickets to OU Saturday night. I am staying home and watching the OSU-tejas game instead. And, my son is pissed. This is the biggest game in OSU history, period. OSU should be favored in this game and in my opinion should win it. I want OSU to beat tejas so bad I can taste it. If they don't win, they should never compare themselves to a D1 team again. This is a perfect set up for them to win. OSU is underrated and tejas is way overrated. Colt McCoy is a piss ant and he is playing that way. Hit him every play and he will fold.
UnSub, Yukon - Oct 30, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Come on, it is a technicality. The stadium will be about 1000 short of 60,000, but that doesn't really mean anything. It is a sellout. For comparison, OU's biggest crowd last year was 85,646. Every other home game was below that, some about 1000 below. Yet all of those games were sellouts, and they should be called so. If all the tickets available for sale are sold, it is a sellout. That is the definition.
Travis, OKC - Oct 30, 2009 at 4:47 pm
I will bet that Holder makes the OU game next season the game that you have to buy season tickets for to see the game. This season it was Georgia, and should have been tejas..... 58,000 fans would only fill a little over half of Owen field. So, this isn't any kind of accomplishment. But I guess it is for them., where at OU it would mean it is time to fire the coaching staff. That must be part of the difference of big time football and the level that D2 and NAIA schools play at. 58,000 would be a great number for them and OSU....... OSU better win this game or they will never have 58,000 again unless they let OU fans buy single game tickets for Bedlam.
UnSub, Yukon - Oct 30, 2009 at 4:41 pm
So OSU has developed a ticket strategy that makes it impossible for them to have a capacity crowd against Texas... interesting. Think about Nebraska, OU, Texas- I can't imagine those programs ever putting themselves in this situation. Forget about revenue- think about PR and recruiting- seems like this is a counterproductive strategy.

I thought OSU said there were quite a bit of student season tickets that weren't sold. Unless they convert those to single game tickets there will still be empty seats in the lower bowl.

David is right. OU fans should be huge OSU fans right now.
Travis, OKC - Oct 30, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Only way OU can go to Big XII championship is to win out & TU must loose 2 games. OU won't go if there is a 3 way tie. OU would go if OU & OSU have one loss each (head to head w/ 2 teams) Good to see the Pokes selling out. Only going to make the confernce stronger. Going to be an awesome game on a perfect OK night. Go Pokes

You Cowboy fans are giving Paul and Louis way too much credit, assuming they can read; their postings must be random key strokes that just happen to form words. How else could could one explain such idiotic comments? Much the same way kiddie porn mysteriously appears on their computer after their cats walk across the keyboards.....May the best team win, it should be fun.

Paul, you guys just can't get over it, can you? The Stadium bowl area is sold-out, and that's what you see on TV, so there will not appear to be any empty seats. The unsold suites are behind glass, and you can't tell if they are occupied or not, as someone else pointed out. OU is not in the conversation anymore, so you losers are just looking for something, ANYTHING, to bitch about. That, my friend is what is so sad, not some empty suites. And you call that sort of pathetic whimpering "OU tradition". Where is your pride?

Derek, do you have at least $5,000 to shelve out for OU season tickets?
Jacob, Kansas - Oct 30, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Berry, I don't think Nebraska will be a problem for the Sooners.

Maybe Tech though.

Paul, you moron. All of the regular tickets are sold out! Unless you have $5,000 or more to spend. I am not sure what your talking about. You have no clue, buddy. The only empty seats on the ones in the suites and club level, which are mostly indoor. Club level gives you the option to sit inside or out. It will be full.
Jacob, Kansas - Oct 30, 2009 at 12:32 pm
Trying not to flame too bad, but it is a bit unseemly that Okie State can't sell out Boone Pickens Stadium for the #2 ranked team in nation that is also a conference opponent.
Derek, Owasso - Oct 30, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Actually it is technically possible for both Texas and OSU to end up with 2 losses in conference. If OU wins out then they would be the South champ in that situation. It is not likely, but possible. Also, Steven, I think John meant that a team who already has 3 losses won't be able to win out in the South. I don't think he was saying that OU has 3 south division losses. His wording might have been a little out of order.
Travis, OKC - Oct 30, 2009 at 12:23 pm
Who says 0u won't have three losses by the time they get to the Cowboys? They still have tech and nebraska ahead of them along with a rapidly improving a and m team. Don't get to excited louise and paul
berry, arapaho - Oct 30, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Steven, The only shot ou has is the 3 way tie scenario, like last year. The team with the highest BCS ranking goes and there is no way that ou, with 3 losses, goes to the championship game. That's what he was referring to in his comment.
Royal Wulff, Oklahoma City - Oct 30, 2009 at 12:16 pm
For your information, John of Harrah, OU has one loss in the south, not 3. The other losses were non-conference games.
Steven, Oklahoma City - Oct 30, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Sounds like to me that every seat available will be taken other than the suites that require a season long comittment. It is another step in building the future in terms of winning the big games. I hate to say must win, but it sure is close.

Paul, it says every ticket that can be sold to this game has been sold. There are none to give away therefore your comments don't make sense. The reason the stadium is not completely sold out is because there aren't people committed to buying a suite (which takes an entire season and quite a donation). Read before you post moron.

Chris, Jones - Oct 30, 2009 at 11:43 am
If you could read you would know the only empty seats are in the suite section, which normally look empty because some of the people lucky enough to have those seats are inside eating, drinking and watching the game on television. Keep dreaming on the Big 12 championship because there is no way a team with 3 losses in the south is going to be able to win it. Nice Louise, really nice; lOUser

OK, all OSU fans are saying "Biggest Game in OSU history" and they can't even sell out the stadium. That is so sad. Just shows they will never have the tradition nor the following OU has.

I'm sure Holder will end up giving away tickets at the last minute to fill the stadium up.

I can only imagine the embarrasment on OSU's part is a split national telecast shows empty seats on a game of this importance.

That said...I hope OSU wins as this is the only shot OU has in finding a way into the Big 12 Championship!
