LUTHER — Luther Library hosted The Buzz About Bees on Friday, a class devoted to beekeeping and learning about the insects.
Stephen Kendall, a professional beekeeper, showed a group of about two dozen children how the beekeeping process works from beginning to end.

After the group saw a movie, Kendall set up equipment outside and showed them how to spin and cut honeycomb and then extract the honey and keep it in jars. Angie Paeltz, one of the librarians, said the class was not only entertaining, but very informative.
"I think it showed them how an insect is beneficial,” Paeltz said. "They saw how a bee can make the honey to put on their toast in the morning.”
After the demonstration, the group was free to explore the equipment and ask Kendall questions about beekeeping, as well as the insects.
The class was part of the summer reading program at the library, which will end in August. Other classes have included lessons on drawing and environmental issues, as well as storytelling sessions.
