A Luther man is accused of hitting his German shepherd below the eye with a clay coaster intended for his wife, court papers show.
Scotty Chad Hines, 42, was charged Friday in Oklahoma County District Court with one count of felony animal cruelty.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the charge, Hines and his wife were arguing over his drug use when he became upset and threw a coaster at his wife. The coaster missed her and hit the dog.
Hines was not at the couple's residence in the 21200 block of East Bowman Road on Sept. 8 when a sheriff's deputy responded to a disturbance call. The deputy wrote in the affidavit that he saw a “large swollen open laceration below the dog's right eye about the size of a quarter.”
